Things To Do

Depending on the season, there are lots of things to do including swimming, boating, fishing, getting a good sun tan, hiking on the Stanhope Walking Trails, the Trail & Tours Network, horseback riding in Algonquin Park, or just spending time with a good book on our new deck by the beach or soak in our hot tub. There are also several good golf courses nearby. Kayak enthusiasts will enjoy the Minden White Water Reserve, and the Algonquin Park Wolf Howls are ever popular in the summer months. Municipal tennis, basketball, soccer and baseball diamonds are within 5 minutes. Bring your bats and gloves for a Ruby's tourney! First run movies in a unique old style theatre can be seen daily at the Highlands Cinemas.  You can rent an ATV or Hummer through Back Country Tours, no experience necessary! Experienced guides take you on rugged trails with lots of beautiful scenery!

Watching a loon cruise by at sunset is one of the many things to see & do at Ruby's Cottage Resort.

The central fire pit is always a good meeting place in the evenings for weenie and marshmallow roasts. The fall is quite a beautiful time of the year with the colours always putting on a good show, especially during the annual Haliburton Fall Studio Tour.

The Arts
While staying at Ruby's, why not take in a show or a play at the Muskoka Lakes Music Festival, the Huntsville Festival of the Arts, the Highlands Summer Festival, or attend good live theatre at the Op in Gravenhurst. All under an hours drive from Ruby's.

Steam Ships
For those interested in cruising in style on the water, a ride on the RMS Segwun is fabulous. Another old lakes steamship is being restored in Dorset for future cruises. Visit the RMS Bigwin or the fire tower!

Winter Activities
Winter time activities include snowmobiling on the extensive HCSA trails which run nearby, or ice fishing on Boshkung Lake. Down hill skiing is nearby at Sir Sams as well as numerous cross country ski trails at the Leslie Frost Centre and Haliburton Nordic Trails. We also clear an area on the lake for ice skating and pick up hockey. Don't forget your stick and skates! Snowmobile rentals available at Wedgewood Marina 705-489-2320

Fishing
The fishing is good in Boshkung Lake, with lake trout, whitefish, large and small mouth bass and yellow perch. Species such as walleye and northern pike can be found in other nearby lakes.

Be prepared to present a valid outdoors card/fishing license for the MNR conservation officers.

Boat Rentals
Our boats are fitted with all the required safety equipment, including life jackets, and a map of the lake is provided on request. You must have a Pleasure Craft Operators Card or a Rental Boat Safety checklist in order to rent a boat at Ruby's Cottage Resort. Ruby's encourages all boaters to get "the card", it will be required for all motorized boaters at some point.
